Thousands of stray, feral, and sick dogs roam the streets and beaches in third world countries. The story is basically the same regardless of where it originates. This has been an age-old problem with which animal lovers and animal welfare organizations around the world have been wrestling.
Most dogs are community dogs meaning they live within an established territory, roaming the streets in search of food, living on the edge of starvation, most suffering from mange and intestinal parasite infestation, males with large wounds and maggot infestation from fighting over bitches in heat. Their lives shortened by being killed from cars or stoned or set on fire by people. Cats are frequently drowned or poisoned. |

In 2002, with help from a few volunteers and a local vet, Noah’s Ark Spay & Neuter Group was created. Our organization has developed an innovative grass roots approach and adapted components modeled after different animal welfare campaigns worldwide to create the only program of its kind on the island of Jamaica;providing free sterilizations, vaccinations, de-worming, and flea/tick treatment of the street animals as well as establishing a comprehensive humane education program targeting school age children through adults.
